Golf best bets: 3 props for the Memorial Tournament

It's Memorial week, one of our favorite events on the PGA Tour schedule. Muirfield Village Golf Club does an exceptional job of testing your all-around tee-to-green game with its thick rough, small, firm greens and tricky short-game areas. To have success on this golf course, you need to drive it long and straight and hit your long irons well. Pristine ball striking is the name of the game this week.

With that in mind, let's target three props we love for the Memorial Tournament.

Corey Conners top-20 finish (+165 DraftKings)

Corey Conners isn't getting enough love for how well he's striping the ball right now. The Canadian has gained strokes on approach in all 14 of his stroke-play starts this season, and he's gained a whopping 20.34 true strokes on approach over his last three events, per Data Golf.

Conners has been better with his irons this season than every player on the PGA Tour not named Scottie Scheffler. His best range has been outside of 200 yards, which is where a majority of approach shots will come from at Muirfield Village. Long-iron play is pivotal at this golf course because of its small, firm greens, and Conners is swinging those clubs with a ton of confidence right now. He's also deadly accurate with his driver, another crucial skill to have this week with thick rough lurking on every hole.

The putter is our only worry with Conners, but Muirfield's greens consistently rank as some of the easiest to navigate on the PGA Tour schedule. This is a perfect setup for the 32-year-old.

Cameron Young top-10 finish (+450 FanDuel)

We're getting a break on Cameron Young's price because he's finished outside the top 30 in four straight starts, but this is a good week to buy back on him. The 27-year-old ranks eighth on the PGA Tour this season in total driving, fifth in approaches from 175-200 yards and 13th in approaches from 200-225 yards. That's the blueprint for Muirfield Village.

Young doesn't have a good track record at the Memorial, but that's because he couldn't make a putt in each of his two starts here. Well, he's gained strokes from putting in three straight starts coming in. If he can put it all together for four days, he can contend for a win this week.

Tournament matchup: Shane Lowry > Denny McCarthy (-110 FD)

Fading Denny McCarthy this week is a terrifying proposition. The American lost to Viktor Hovland in a playoff last year and finished T5 in 2023, but the way he did it isn't sustainable. McCarthy gained a whopping 11.84 true strokes from putting at Muirfield Village last year, the highest mark of his entire career for a single event. The year before, he gained 12.0 true strokes between putting and chipping. Black magic!

McCarthy is one of the best putters in the world, yes, but it's nearly impossible to chip and putt your way to success at this golf course when your ball striking is off. The 31-year-old has somehow done it two years in a row. McCarthy is short and inaccurate off the tee and a mediocre iron player, so he'll need another historic performance on and around the greens to contend again. We'll gladly fade that with Shane Lowry, who ranks third on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy and 11th in strokes gained from approach this season.
