Golf best bets: 3 top props for the Travelers Championship

The PGA Tour rolls on to TPC River Highlands this week for the Travelers Championship. Even though last week was a major championship, all the best players on Tour will be in attendance (aside from Rory McIlroy, who withdrew after a heartbreaker at Pinehurst) at the signature event.
Here are our three favorite props for the Travelers Championship.

Patrick Cantlay top-20 finish (-140 DraftKings)

We rarely bet finishing positions with minus odds, but that's how much we love this one.

Cantlay is a creature of habit in that he finds golf courses he likes and consistently plays them well. TPC River Highlands just happens to be one of those courses, as Cantlay has finished 15th or better in six straight starts at the Travelers Championship. One of the top comp courses for TPC River Highlands is Harbour Town Golf Links, where Cantlay has six top-10 finishes in seven starts.

Cantlay thrives on short, positional golf courses, and he's riding the momentum of a T3 finish at the U.S. Open last week.

Sahith Theegala top-10 finish (+260 FanDuel)

Theegala should've won this event in 2022, but an unlucky break on the 72nd hole of the tournament led to a devastating double bogey that cost him the victory. Maybe he gets his revenge this week, but we'll play it safe with a top-10 bet.

Theegala loves the greens at TPC River Highlands, as he's gained strokes from putting in all three of his starts here. We know he can rack up birdies in a hurry with how hot his putter can get, but we're more excited about his ball striking trending up. The Pepperdine product has gained strokes from off the tee in 12 straight starts and on approach in seven of his last nine.

That combination is exactly what you need in a birdie fest.

Tournament matchup: Matt Fitzpatrick > Justin Thomas (+100 DK)

Thomas is on our fade list this week for a few reasons. For one, TPC River Highlands is a short golf course that gives up a ton of birdies, so you need to have a good week on the greens to keep up. Well, Thomas has lost strokes from putting in three straight starts and six of his last eight events. He's also coming off his worst iron week of the season in which he lost more than 6.0 true strokes on approach in only two rounds. Yikes.

Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour. He gained 6.08 true strokes on the green en route to a T5 finish at the Memorial two weeks ago, and he's gained strokes from off the tee and on approach in three straight starts. We trust Fitzy to make more of those crucial 10-15 footers than JT this week.
