Golf best bets: Yardbarker's 3 top props for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

The PGA Tour rolls on to Detroit Golf Club this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and if you like birdie fests, this is the tournament for you. Four of the five winners here have finished at 23 under par or better, so we're targeting three golfers capable of going low with our three favorite props for the week.

Akshay Bhatia top-20 finish (+115 DraftKings)

Bhatia went through a bit of a lull after his win at the Valero Texas Open, but he's back to playing some stellar golf. The 22-year-old finished T22 at the Memorial Championship, T16 at the U.S. Open and T5 at the Travelers Championship in his last three starts. That's extra encouraging because those three golf courses all test different aspects of your game, so Bhatia is playing confidently with every club in his bag.

Success at Detroit Golf Club is all about driving the ball well and making putts. Well, Bhatia has gained strokes from off the tee in five straight starts and from putting in four straight. The American missed the cut here last year, but he had a poor putting week in what was a terrible season with the flatstick. He's a much different player with his new putter, and he shouldn't be plus-money in this market in such a weak field.

Jake Knapp top-10 finish (+900 FanDuel)

Let's try for a bomb with this pick.

Knapp has been a boom-or-bust performer on the PGA Tour this year. The rookie already has a win and four top-10 finishes in 17 starts, but he also has 10 finishes outside the top 50. This is a great venue for a boom week.

Knapp's biggest strength is his driving distance. He can struggle on tight golf courses due to his poor accuracy, but Detroit Golf Club is forgiving off the tee and friendly to longer hitters. The American will try to bomb and gouge this place like past champions Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau and Cameron Davis did before him. If the putter cooperates, he's a real threat to win.

Taylor Pendrith top Canadian (+105 FD)

We love Pendrith this week, especially in this niche market. Only five Canadians are playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Angelo Giantsopoulos Monday qualified and will be making his first career PGA Tour start, so he's out. Roger Sloan has missed the cut in five of his last six starts, so he's also out. Ben Silverman is playing pretty well, but he's too short off the tee for this golf course.

So, we're looking at this as a 72-hole matchup between Pendrith and Adam Svensson. Svensson is hitting the ball great, but he's one of the worst putters on the PGA Tour. He may not be able to convert enough birdie chances to compete in a low-scoring event. Pendrith, on the other hand, is a perfect fit for Detroit Golf Club as a bomber who can putt the lights out. That's why he's finished T2 and T14 here in two previous starts. If this does end up being a two-man race, we love Pendrith at plus money.
