There's no love lost when it comes to the Ryder Cup and the father of one of the game's biggest golfers.
In a recent conversation with The Times, Xander Schauffele's dad Stefan went at-length about his feelings on the disintegration of the U.S. vs. Europe tournament and his view of the PGA as a whole.
"Do I miss the PGA Tour? No. I'm not going to the Ryder Cup either," Schauffele admitted to the London-based paper. "I'm afraid of what's going to happen in New York. I was there [at Whistling Straits] when they called Shane Lowry's wife a [expletive] in front of him. I couldn't believe my ears."
"Then I saw what happened in Rome," Stefan continued. "That was utterly disgusting claiming this money [BS] and Rory [McIlroy] behaved disgustingly in my opinion [when he confronted caddie Joe LaCava]. It's only going to get worse. It's ruined my appetite for the Ryder Cup. It becomes unwatchable."
The Ryder Cup has become known for some of its more confrontational behavior in recent years — especially when the event was held on American soil back in 2021 and Lowry's wife caught the earful that she did.
And with a raucous crowd expected at Bethpage later this year, Stefan has decided its more trouble than its worth to attend.
Schauffele, who took home two majors last year, is currently second behind Scottie Scheffler in the Ryder Cup standings and will almost assuredly be competing with the rest of America's projected roster in September.
But it sounds like his dad will just have to cheer him on from back home.
