Grayson Murray, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, has died at age 30.

“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement released Saturday. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

No cause of death has been revealed. On Friday morning, Murray withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge due to illness. He shot a 68 on Thursday.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Monahan said. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

Murray was a star junior golfer and broke into the Korn Ferry Tour as a 16-year old. He earned full-time PGA Tour status in 2016-17. At 23, Murray won the 2017 Barbasol Championship.

After a promising 2023 on the Korn Ferry Tour, Murray triumphed once again on the PGA Tour, at the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii. On the first playoff hole, Murray sank a 40-foot birdie putt to defeat Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An.

Afterward, he spoke candidly about overcoming personal struggles.

“A lot of hard work pays off. It’s not easy, you know. I want to give up a lot of times, give up on myself, give up on the game of golf, give up on life at times. Just persevere, and when you get tired of fighting let someone else fight for you. That’s what happened.

“I knew today was not going to change my life. My fiancée changed my life, Jesus Christ changed my life. Today wasn’t going to change my life, but it did change my career a little bit, and I’m excited.

“It took me a long time to get to this point. I’m a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn’t put that drink down eight months ago.”

In April, Murray participated in the Masters par-3 contest with his family.

Murray was ranked No. 58 in the world.
