After parting with LIV Golf in September 2025, Greg Norman recently expressed his desire to change a few things about his LIV journey. The British golf legend was at the heart of LIV since its inception, but voiced regrets concerning Rory McIlroy.

The former World No. 1 had faced extreme backlash during the inception of LIV. As the league’s then-commissioner, Norman got things running for LIV with financial backing from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF). He recently expressed regret for not having sat down with the PGA Tour big guns to explain his stance to them.

“I just wish I’d sat down with Rory [McIlroy] and a few others on the PGA Tour to explain what my mission was, and what LIV’s mission was,” Norman told Dan Rapaport on his live golf show ‘Dan on Golf.’

During Norman’s time at LIV, McIlroy was one of his biggest critics. The 2026 Masters champion backed the PGA Tour throughout and urged Norman to give up on the rebel tour.

“I think Greg needs to go. I think he just needs to exit stage left,” McIlroy said.

Norman, on the other hand, called the Irishman “brainwashed by the PGA Tour.” However, last year, McIlroy got what he wanted after Norman’s exit from LIV last year.

In an interesting turn of events, after the former CEO’s exit, McIlroy hailed the Aussie’s efforts to bring LIV to the spotlight.

McIlroy believed that Norman “took a lot of flak” and was “one of the only guys in golf who could have taken on that role.”

Previously in 2024, Norman confirmed that LIV had never made an offer to McIlroy after rumors of an $850 million deal emerged. However, he stated that the league would be “one hundred percent” interested in holding talks with the World No.2 or any other PGA pro who’s willing to join them. Norman

Despite Norman’s departure from LIV, he still expresses concern about its future.

Greg Norman on LIV Golf’s Future

The two-time Open winner recently shared a few words on LIV Golf’s future.

With reports circulating that the PIF will withdraw funding from next year, LIV Golf seems to be at a crossroads. With a drop in international investment from PIF, who are looking to enhance domestic sports endeavors, LIV will have to look at alternative funding.

“Getting a US financial institution coming in would be very advantageous, no different to what’s happened with SSG and the PGA Tour. Very, very advantageous for him.” said Norman.

Norman believed that the future of the rebel tour “totally depends” on his successor, Scott O’Neil.
