After Patrick Reed, Sam Burns and Tommy Fletwood failed to keep up with Rory McIlroy in the 2026 Masters moving day, Cameron Young cashed in on all the mistakes the other competitors made and entered Sunday with a real shot at winning the green jacket.
He teed off with McIlroy on Sunday, putting pressure on the defending champion. The 28-year-old American golfer drew a lot of attention with his performance at Augusta National Golf Club.
Like all professional golfers, Young has multiple sponsors. However, he can flex that a whole professional league backs him up at the first major of the season. Major League Baseball (MLB) sponsors the golfer.
The answer is pretty simple. Young has connections with the league. How? His father has a close relationship with Rob Manfred, the MLB Commissioner.
“Young’s father was the head pro at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in New York. One of its members: MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. Young said that Manfred, who’s also a member at Augusta National, took the family out to dinner when he turned pro and asked if he’d wear an MLB patch. Young agreed, and has been sponsored by MLB ever since,” Front Office Sports reported.
Cameron Young emerged as a solid candidate to win the tournament this weekend. Many patrons are pulling for him to dethrone McIlroy, one of the biggest names in the game.
