Tiger Woods is in treatment right now, away from golf, and the man who spent years reading greens alongside him has one simple message: it all starts with Tiger.

Joe LaCava, Woods’ former caddie, spoke to The Atlantic in a recent interview about the golfer’s current situation. Woods had been picked up on suspicion of DUI on March 27, 2026.

But the 50-year-old blew clean on the breathalyzer. He was later charged with DUI, property damage, and failure to follow orders.

LaCava hasn’t texted or called him. “He’s got to help himself, which is what I’m hoping he’ll do,” LaCava said. “But I have not made any contact with him.” But that’s not because he’s done with him.

Joe LaCava said that Tiger Woods likely has enough people texting and hounding him, so he doesn’t need to bother him. He added that he cares greatly about Woods, is not upset with him, and that Woods knows that.

Woods released a statement saying he’s stepping away. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” Woods said. “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place.”

Woods has repeatedly rebuilt his career after public and physical setbacks, from highly publicized personal struggles to multiple back surgeries, most notably returning to win the 2019 Masters after years of doubt.

A source told People the arrest hit him hard. They noted that while Woods can be defensive, he was embarrassed and is now committed to getting better.

Even though he’s keeping his distance, LaCava expressed an unwavering belief in Tiger.

LaCava Still Believes There’s Another Chapter Left in Tiger Woods

“He’s got anything in him, and he’s proven that,” LaCava said. “He’s going to be 50-plus, I get it. But I wouldn’t put anything past the guy. So I’d never write him off.”

He expects to hear from Woods soon, saying that they will likely communicate once he is back home and assuming he does not have access to his phone.

One fan summed it up simply on X after LaCava’s comments dropped: “There is another Green Jacket in him.”
