Bryson DeChambeau has spent enough time around Anthony Kim in LIV Golf events over the past year to get a good sense of where his game is.
DeChambeau shot a six-under-par 66 to tie for the lead after the first round at LIV Golf Adelaide, while Kim opened with an impressive 67 to sit just one shot behind.
Kim made his way back into LIV during the offseason after being relegated from the tour in 2025. He earned one of three available spots through the LIV Golf Promotions event held in Florida last month.
“He’s a hell of a player. Everyone knows that,” DeChambeau said, “and he’s got plenty of life experience. I’m excited for him and glad to see him back playing good golf again.”
DeChambeau spoke highly of Kim after his strong start at The Grange, highlighting how their conversations have impacted his outlook.
He was asked about the need to stay patient as he pursues more wins throughout the 2026 season.
And interestingly, the two-time US Open champion mentioned that it was something he picked up from Kim.
“AK was just up here, and he’s 40 years old now,” DeChambeau said.
“It was just really cool actually – not as a digression or whatnot, but it was really cool to see him, somebody that’s had a lot of difficulties change his life around.
“Coming back out here and having the success that he’s had, it’s really cool to hear somebody like that say even when he’s been through so much trouble.
“He’s eight years older than me. To still say look, it’s about patience and whatnot. It doesn’t matter where you are.”
Kim has clearly had an influence on DeChambeau’s mindset. Patience isn’t something that comes easily in golf—especially for someone with high expectations like Bryson.
There’s no doubt the 32-year-old has the game to win more majors and LIV Golf events.
But if he wants to keep improving in 2026 and beyond, tightening up his iron play will be key.
It was his lack of control with his irons that cost him The Masters in 2025, and it’s likely something he’s addressed during the off-season.
This year is a big one for DeChambeau, who is looking to leave a mark on the major tournaments throughout the calendar.
Staying patient will be part of that process if he wants to rack up more wins, especially during majors. But that alone won’t be enough.
The real difference-maker could come from dialling in his approach shots – getting better control over distance and spin could give him an extra edge when it matters most.
