Augusta National has its own rulebook, and apparently, even the Masters champions like Jordan Spieth don’t always know what’s in it.
Spieth has been to those famous cabins on the Augusta National property around 15 times. Yet when a reporter asked him about it at the 2026 Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort on Friday, March 20, the 2015 Masters champion paused and said something that stopped the room.
“I don’t know if I’m actually just allowed to do it on my own,” Jordan Spieth said.
Every single stay had been either a same-day visit or part of a group trip with members. He’s never once just rocked up to Augusta, checked into a cabin, and made himself at home, even though he owns a Green Jacket.
Jordan Spieth stayed in the Butler Cabin on his first-ever visit and once ended up in the one sitting closest to the 10th tee box. He didn’t even plan to play the back nine that day, then suddenly they were out there doing exactly that. The newer sponsor cabins are down by the 10th fairway, and the brand new ones are on the par-3 course. He’s heard the rave reviews on those but hasn’t personally stayed in them yet.
“It’s spectacular,” Spieth said about the places where he did stay. “It’s a great experience.”
What makes Augusta different from every other high-end private club experience, Jordan Spieth said, is the weight of the place. Newer courses come with lit-up greens and a looser vibe. Augusta is buttoned up, and everywhere you turn, there’s something that actually happened there.
“There are only a few places in the world that have that,” Spieth said.
The cabin conversation was one thing, and then the topic moved to the Champions Dinner, and Spieth’s answer became even more interesting.
Jordan Spieth hosted the dinner in 2016, one year after winning the Masters. The golfer was sitting in a room with some of the greatest linksmen ever, and he had to stand up and say something.
“I was thinking, what am I going to say to these guys?” Spieth said. “I was 22.”
Now, ten years later, he feels much more comfortable. He even joked that the seating at the dinner is like middle school.
Everybody acts like they might sit somewhere different this year, and then they all end up in the same spots anyway. Jordan Spieth lands near Scottie Scheffler most years, unless Scheffler has just won, which has happened twice recently, and moves to the champion’s seat.
