The PGA Tour is making headlines through its fall schedule as Lexi Thompson becomes just the seventh female to play in a PGA Tour event when she tees off at the Shriners Children's Open. But is the 11-time LPGA Tour winner worth putting money on ahead of the big event?

You may want to hold onto your pocket change — unless you are insanely confident — because Thompson is a 2000-1 long shot to win the Shriners Children's Open this weekend. She's also a 90-1 long shot to place in the top 10.

Thompson said the pressure already feels akin to a major championship.

Those very long odds don't necessarily mean Thompson won't be competitive at TPC Summerlin, however. The Florida native is priced at 5-1 to make the cut after Friday's round, and she has already earned some kudos after she practiced ahead of the event with PGA pros Michael Kim and Ben Griffin.
"She was hitting it closer than us on a few holes — which is to be expected," Griffin told Golf Magazine. "She has a ton of talent, and she can handle it out there. It’s a little different out here being a little firmer, a little different conditions, but I think she’s adjusting well, and she played awesome today, and I think she can really compete this week and have a good chance at least making the weekend. It’ll be fun to watch."
Thompson would become the second female to ever make the cut at a PGA Tour event. The only golfer with that honor is Babe Zaharias, who made the 36-hole cut at the Los Angeles Open in 1945.
The 2023 Shriners Children's Open tees off on Thursday at 9:50 a.m. ET. Thompson is scheduled to tee off with Kevin Roy (500-1 to win) and Trevor Werbylo (1000-1) at 4:19 p.m. ET.
