Is Rory McIlroy a US Citizen? PGA Tour Pro’s Nationality Explored

Rory McIlroy is inarguably one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour. A longtime resident of Florida, he lives happily with his wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy in Jupiter. So does that mean he is an American citizen?

Well, the answer is no. McIlroy was born in Holywood, County Down, in Northern Ireland, and holds British citizenship. He travels with his British passport to any tournament that he attends. However, even though his official nationality is British, his sense of identity is somewhat more complex. Over the years, McIlroy has described himself as Northern Irish, but has then at times leaned more towards being British.
