Jordan Spieth: Easier to win PGA Tour without fans, focus on 'pure golf'

Golf without fans certainly has been odd, but one player seems to think things have been easier without fans on the course.

While Brooks Koepka thinks it doesn't feel normal, Jordan Spieth is embracing the opportunity to play without fans on the course.

"I think without fans ... in general, it's easier to win on the PGA Tour without fans is what I've seen the first couple weeks," Spieth said Tuesday at his news conference leading into the Travelers Championship, according to ESPN's Nick Pietruszkiewicz. "It's easier to just be zoned in on pure golf."

Under the current circumstances, the PGA Tour's first five events will be held without spectators. The Memorial, which is set to begin on July 16 in Ohio, is planning on allowing a limited number of fans to attend.

The PGA Championship announced Monday that no fans will be allowed to attend the event on Aug. 6 in San Francisco, and Spieth thinks it could be an advantage, especially to players who haven't won a major before. 

There's been a noticeable difference on the course during each event, especially when looking at the lower intensity and quietness at the Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Heritage. 

The Travelers Championship is set to kick off on Thursday, and Rory McIlroy currently has the best odds of winning at 12-1, according to CBS Sports, but considering Spieth thinks certain players will have an advantage due to no fans being allowed to attend, maybe someone will surprise McIlroy and take the victory.
