The PGA Tour announced that Jordan Spieth has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship due to an injury. This is the first time in 297 starts that Speith has withdrawn from a PGA Tour event.
A video showed Jordan Spieth grimacing in pain after taking a swing at the Travelers Championship. According to George Savaricas of the Golf Channel (per Yahoo Sports), Spieth injured his neck while warming up on the range before the first round. He opted to play through the injury, going five over par through the first 12 holes.

During the 13th hole, Spieth told his caddie, Michael Greller, “I’m done. Can’t do it. I’m sorry.” He then called the rules official and asked “How’s this work?” when it comes to withdrawing from a PGA Tour event. Spieth was then seen getting on a golf cart and went back to the clubhouse. He will receive last-place money and no FedEx Cup points.
Jordan Speith was looking for his first win at a PGA Tour event since April 2022. This year, the former Texas star finished tied for fourth in the Waste Management Phoenix Open and fourth in The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. At the U.S. Open last week, Spieth finished tied for 23, shooting eight over.
In his career, Spieth has won 13 PGA Tour events, including three major championships. He won the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 and The Open Championship in 2017. At the PGA Championship, Spieth’s best finish was second, which was in 2015.
After this year’s U.S. Open, Spieth revealed what he did after a rough outing. “Had a few beers Sunday,” Spieth told reporters before the Travelers Championship. “We were waiting on the Scheffler’s to come over here and, he [Scottie Scheffler] was after the delay, so I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with Michael [Greller, Spieth’s caddie]. And I didn’t exactly eat or drink the way I normally do there.”
Spieth added, “Most of the time it’s very, very good. But sometimes post-U.S. Open, I just kind of needed to throw a few back. And then by yesterday, I was good. I’m still young enough that it doesn’t really bother me the next day.”
