Jordan Spieth's Wrist Liking Florida

At the beginning of the week, Jordan Spieth discussed his recovery from surgery on his left wrist, which he had undergone in late August.

Having recovery issues, Spieth hoped the warmer Florida temperatures would improve his wrist.

Seven birdies and a lone bogey, Spieth’s 65 tied his lowest round of the year and showed his mojo seems to be back in his first round in Florida.

“I thought from a course setup they weren't many of the hardest pins on the golf course,” Spieth said of the course setup. “A lot of them were in gettable locations, and then we didn't have any wind, so it was a beautiful morning.”

Spieth has also had to deal with a cracked driver outside of addressing the wrist recovery.

Since Pebble Beach, where Spieth finished T9, his best finish of the early season, the three-time major winner has tried to replace his driver.

After Pebble, Spieth tried to find a driver at both Phoenix and San Diego, adjusting settings to try to get the launch and spin right. Spieth adapted quickly after changing his ball to a Titleist Pro V1 25x on Thursday.

“The window it goes into is a little closer to the one I was playing, and if anything it spins a little bit less, is a little lower, but it has the correct spin rates on my 4-, 5-, 6-irons, and then from there was just going to be better with the driver,” Spieth said of the new ball. “A lot of it was matching the driver and making sure it held up and the long irons.”

Add in the fact that the course was overseeded and the hole locations were gettable, according to Spieth, Spieth’s first visit to PGA National in a professional event was a positive with a T11 in the first round.

“If you give the four locations on the green and you asked which one is the easiest,” Spieth said. “I would say probably half of them were on the easiest location today instead of just a quarter of them.”
