LIV Golf slammed as a ‘dumb idea’ as Jon Rahm said to be in ‘worst nightmare’ situation

LIV Golf’s future is shrouded in uncertainty after the Saudis pulled funding for next season.

They are scrambling for new investment, and if they don’t find it, the league is likely to fold next season. And even if they do find some alternative backing, LIV Golf is set to look drastically different.

Bryson DeChambeau is out of contract at the end of 2026 and he’s eyeing the exit door. The superstar was seen speaking to PGA Tour officials at The Masters, and is considering stepping away from full-time competition to do content creation.

Meanwhile, Jon Rahm is stuck in a multi-year deal that he says there is no way out of. And when asked if he regrets his decision to join LIV ahead of the PGA Championship, his answer wasn’t as conclusive as LIV might have liked.

It seems that Rahm is trapped on LIV against his will, as the house of cards collapses around him. And LIV’s leadership has been slammed for their decision making.

LIV Golf leadership labelled ‘incompetent’

LIV Golf is currently on the ropes, and as it desperately searches for a means of survival, questions are being asked as to why the concept didn’t work.

That was put to the Golf Channel’s Eamon Lynch, who went in on LIV Golf in response: “Asking me why it failed to catch on is like asking me to catch a snowflake out of a blizzard.

“It was a dumb idea, it was badly executed, odious funding, it had incompetent leadership, unlikeable players, no respect for what fans appreciate or treasure about the game, no values other than cash, trigger happy on lawsuits, a victim mentality.

“Any one of those things would be compromising of the product and taken together it’s pretty much fatal.

“What their prospects are going forward are kind of interesting. At this point Scott O’Neil is trying to sell a deck chair on the Titanic by telling you you are going to have a beautiful view of the iceberg when it comes.

“His best case scenario is a greatly diminished circuit probably playing for pennies on the dollar, not the millions they have been enjoying, because the Saudis had the deepest pockets in sports and they got tired of being picked over by washed up players and grifters.

“I think it’s unlikely it would survive. I think it’s impossible it survives in its current form and that to me is the worst nightmare of Jon Rahm. Leave Bryson aside because he has an option to leave this year when his contract is up. Rahm admitted last week he does not have that option to leave.

“So Rahm is facing the possibility that if they do cobble together a schedule and funding that he is going to have to play for pennies on the dollar and continue on LIV as he has no way out.”

That’s a pretty emphatic response from Lynch, who clearly believes this is the end of LIV Golf as a serious golf tour.
