Moments before teeing off in the first round of the Valero Texas Open, the PGA Tour's website and social media teams announced that childhood friends Max Homa and his caddie Joe Greiner have parted ways ahead of next week's Masters at Augusta National.

Homa, a six-time PGA Tour winner, began working with Greiner full-time in 2019, but the two have known each other since they were kids. Homa and Greiner grew up playing golf together in California at Vista Valencia Golf Course outside of Los Angeles and briefly worked together in 2013. Homa first met Greiner when he was just six years old.

“Joe and I made memories for a lifetime and can’t be more thankful for all the hard work. We have parted ways and it will be sad to see him go,” Homa said in a statement provided to PGATOUR.COM. “I’ll always be grateful to have walked the fairways with one of my best friends.”

The decision to part ways with Greiner comes after Homa missed four consecutive cuts coming into this week, as he failed to qualify for the weekend at the WM Phoenix Open, the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and THE PLAYERS Championship. In 20 starts since contending at the Masters and finishing T3 nearly one year ago, Homa has only two top-25 results and five top-40s. He has not made a cut in an event that featured a cut since The Open Championship in July 2024, and his best result this season is a T26 in a 58-player field at The Sentry.

In his most recent start at THE PLAYERS Championship, Homa shot 79-71 to miss the cut and slide down to 78th in the Official World Golf Ranking. It's the first time he's fallen outside of the top 70 in the OWGR since 2020.

Changes haven't been anything new for Homa, as he boldly switched equipment from Titleist to Cobra in the offseason, split with long-time sing coach Mark Blackburn before last year's Presidents Cup, began working with instructor John Scott Rattan in October, and added Lululemon as a sponsor this year. Now, he's set to have a new man on the bag moving forward. We'll see if that fixes his ball striking (half kidding).

Homa has veteran caddie Bill Harke on the bag this week at TPC San Antonio. Harke previously lopped for Chris Kirk, Colt Knost, and Jonas Blixt on the PGA Tour. It's unknown at this time if Harke is a temporary or permanent replacement for Greiner.

Greiner was on the bag for each of Homa's six PGA Tour victories and caddied for him during his international appearances for the United States at the 2022 and 2024 Presidents Cup and 2023 Ryder Cup.
