NBC Made Brutal Mistake While Covering Tiger Woods' Arrest

One of the top TV networks in the business made an unfortunate error this Saturday while discussing Tiger Woods' arrest.

Woods made his return to the spotlight on Tuesday night when he participated in the TGL finals. Less than 72 hours later, he was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter, Florida. The authorities said his Land Rover SUV flipped after he tried to pass a truck hauling a pressure cleaner.

After completing their investigation, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Woods for driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

“Our DUI investigators came to the scene here. Mr. Woods did exemplify the signs of impairment,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said. “They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests.”

NBC provided an update on Woods' situation during its coverage of the Texas Children's Houston Open. However, the network accidentally used footage from the legendary golfer's 2021 accident.

Back in February 2021, Woods was involved in a serious crash that resulted in him suffering open fractures to his tibia and fibula.

“Woods was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center by ambulance,” the 2021 report from ESPN stated. “Later that night, Dr. Anish Mahajan issued a statement in which he said Woods suffered “significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity” and had emergency surgery for “open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portion of the tibia and fibula bones.” Mahajan said Woods’ leg was “stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia and additional injuries to the bones of his foot and ankle were repaired with screws and pins. To relieve pressure from swelling, doctors also removed the covering of muscles.”

Even though Woods was arrested, the severity of this Friday's crash wasn't nearly as catastrophic.

Will Tiger Woods compete at the Masters?

Prior to Friday's accident, Woods was noncommittal about competing at Augusta National.

“I’ve been trying. Just this body is – it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I’ve been trying for a while. I’ve had a couple bad injuries here over the past years that I’ve had to fight through and it’s taken some time,” Woods said this past Tuesday. “But I keep trying. I want to play. I love the tournament. I’ve loved being there since I was 19 years old. It’s meant a lot to me and my family over the years. I’m going to be there either way with The Loop that’s going up there, as well as the Champions Dinner.”

It's hard to imagine Woods will tee off on April 9 when the Masters begins, but we've seen crazier comebacks before.
