For a league built on innovation, the biggest storyline may still be something very traditional: star power. And when it comes to golf, few names move the needle quite like Tiger Woods.
The 15-time major winner continues to be the biggest spectacle in the sport. As he made his long-awaited return to the SoFi Center for Jupiter Links’ final game against LA Golf Club, fans made sure to tune in live on ESPN.
The TGL final featuring Woods’ return to competitive golf drew 989,000 viewers. While it did not cross the one-million mark, the match immediately became the second-most-watched event in TGL history. And the first? That record also belongs to the legendary golfer.
TGL doesn't quite cross 1M viewers but comes close: 989,000 viewers for Tuesday's match as Tiger returned.

Woods’ TGL debut last year still remains the most-watched broadcast, with 1,005,000 viewers. Tuesday’s coverage also peaked at 1.15 million viewers and averaged 1.09 million between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. The pattern is clear that whenever Tiger is involved, TGL’s viewership rises.
With ESPN’s current deal with TGL nearing its end, a potential contract extension may heavily depend on Woods’ continued presence, based on the available data. Few athletes command attention the way Woods does, even at 50 and with a limited playing schedule.
In simple terms, the numbers tell a straightforward story. Innovation may be TGL’s product, but Tiger Woods remains the biggest draw bringing viewers to the screen.
