Nick Faldo Sparks Outrage With Response To Tiger Woods' DUI Arrest

Nick Faldo didn't hold back his thoughts on Tiger Woods' rollover car crash and DUI arrest, that's for sure.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office detained Woods last Friday on suspicion of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. A few days later, the 15-time major champion announced that he was stepping away from golf to focus on his health. That announcement upset some fans since the 2026 Masters will begin on April 9.

Although the PGA Tour thrives with Woods on the course, it understands that certain things are bigger than sports.

“Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known. Over the last year, I have come to deeply appreciate Tiger not only for his impact on the game, but for his friendship and the perspective he has shared with me as I joined the golf industry,” PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said. “My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support.”

Faldo, a six-time major champion, didn't love the PGA Tour's response to Woods' arrest. He thought it was too weak given how serious this situation is.

“There are two sides to this right now. There’s one side, let’s care for Tiger, and then there’s got to be a responsibility and accountability side as well. This is a serious thing and issue he’s done. The PGA Tour statement was so predictably weak. And you know how they show that, the Tour will look after him as they always have done,” Faldo said, via the Independent.

“As a person, you know, look at his community. We’re not meant to be on the streets with two pills in our pocket. I think the world is divided quite a bit, but the bottom line is, I really think that something (should be done), this is a serious issue. I think something should be done and a little bit more seriously than waving him off to a tropical island and saying, ‘welcome back’ in three or four months."

Fans torn on Faldo's comment.

While some fans believe Faldo's comments were well-warranted, others thought he was a bit too harsh.

"We need to stop apologizing for Woods’ behavior on the basis of what he achieved in the game during his heyday," one person commented. "What if his actions had resulted in a fatality? The PGA are just putting totally the wrong message across here."

"The pills were painkillers. Not street fentanyl. He’s had 30 surgeries. Who is Faldo to tell him he shouldn’t be taking pills," a second person wrote.

"I have to agree on Nick Faldo’s point of view. Tiger Woods has been in my opinion the most excused golfer of all time," a third person said. "I know Tiger is iconic and changed the industry and there’s lots of things we have to give him thanks for, but his actions should have consequences."

"Nick should just continue to wallow in his irrelevancy and shut up," another person added.

TMZ has already reported that Woods will seek treatment outside of the United States. His legal team cited privacy as the main reason for him leaving the country.

We'll continue to monitor Woods' situation.
