I’ve long complained that television coverage of golf is stale and has little redeeming quality.
That may be harsh, but you get the point when the coverage works better than two sleeping pills.
What golf coverage needs is a little irreverence.
Add some self-deprecating humor that makes you laugh a little.
While maybe not the complete answer, Pat Perez, a former 4Aces, may be part of the solution.

After three seasons playing in the LIV Golf League, 48-year-old Perez lost his playing privileges but will still be part of LIV as a part of the broadcast team during the 2025 season.
“I'm full-steam on this thing,” Perez said in a story on the LIV website. “I’m really excited to do it. It’s a perfect mid-life restart for me.”
Perez is not foreign to television coverage, working as part of the commentary crew covering The Match: Tiger vs. Phil at Shadow Creek in 2018.
The three-time winner also teamed with Michael Collins as the Out of Bounds co-host on Sirius XM.
“Thought about doing TV for years now,” Perez said. “I feel like I’m at Q-school again, starting a new career. It’s certainly going to be a learning process. I’m excited to bring my personality to it. We’re going to have fun.”
Perez will get his start next week when the LIV Golf League opens its third full season in Saudi Arabia at the Riyadh Golf Club.
“I’ve always been more of a team-type person. That’s my kind of vibe,” Perez said. “My thing is to build up the players. There’s so much talent in the league, top to bottom. Basically, help our fans by giving them the player’s perspective.”
Perez thought he’d still be playing, but he is now focused on his new job, television, and hopes it will launch a new career.
“I’m thankful it’s worked out this way.”
