Patrick Reed Looking to Make Equipment Change Before Masters

Patrick Reed is focused on fine-tuning this week for his three rounds in the LIV Golf League and, hopefully, for four rounds that will add another green jacket to his wardrobe next week at The Masters.

Ironically, the 2018 Masters champion has had an off year in his four events on LIV, recording only one top 10 in Hong Kong but with solid performances outside of the league.

In four starts in 2025 on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour, the 34-yar-old has a T10 at the Dubai Desert Classic, a T8 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, a T60 at the Bahrain Championship, and a T2 just a couple of weeks ago, at the International Series Macau.

Coming off the trip to Macau, Reed has been tinkering with his set-up, which currently includes a driver, 4-wood, and hybrid.

The hybrid is interchangeable with a 2-iron in his mind, which is dependent on the golf course.

The 4-wood, which goes approximately 250-260 yards, is incredibly straight but spins too much for Reed’s liking.

So, he came to Miami with a couple of three-woods in his arsenal, hoping to find something that would meet his needs with spin and go another 10 yards or so farther than his four-wood.

Another competitor for the bag is the new Titleist GT280 Mini Driver.

It’s billed as a more versatile club that generates additional length and Reed hope eliminates some spin.

The Titleist folks are building a new Mini Driver at Doral this week, using the same length shaft as his 4-wood.

Reed hopes it will play like the 4-wood in terms of accuracy but with increased yardage.

The Masters champion said he is not concerned with making minor changes to the bag this week or leading into Augusta, where he took a reconnaissance visit last week and reported the course seems just like it always does the week before the tournament.
