World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, despite committing to the field at the Houston Open, has withdrawn on Tuesday, just two days before the tournament tees off.
He began the year strongly with two top-five finishes and a win, but his momentum has slowed this month. Scheffler has also dropped out of the top five in the FedEx Cup standings as a result.
The 29-year-old currently ranks sixth, and fans had hoped he would turn things around this week at Memorial Park. He will miss out on a $9.9 million purse, but that is well worth it.
The four-time major winner did not withdraw due to injury. Instead, he is stepping away for a personal reason, as his family of three is about to become four. His wife, Meredith, is expected to give birth to their second child soon.
The timing could not be better for him. The majors begin in two weeks, so if everything goes according to schedule, Scheffler will tee off with renewed confidence after spending valuable time with his family.
Bennett, his son, was born in 2024 and will turn two in May. He, along with his mother, has become a constant presence at Scheffler’s tournaments. He has already become something of a celebrity in the golfing world.
Scottie Scheffler's WD from Houston Open is not injury related, per @BrentleyGC.

So Bennett will not be alone in witnessing Scheffler’s pursuit of a career Grand Slam. He will be joined by his sibling.
