PGA Tour Golfer Withdraws Day Before the 3M Open

The 3M Open is back for its seventh edition at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, and kicks off on Thursday, July 25. As the PGA Tour season heads toward its final stretch, this tournament plays a vital role in the FedEx Cup standings. With all four majors now complete, only two events remain before the top 70 players head to Tennessee for the Play-Offs in August, culminating in the $75 million Tour Championship at East Lake.

But just a day before the action begins, there’s been a field shakeup. Alejandro Tosti has officially withdrawn from the 3M Open, and taking his spot is Ben Martin, a seasoned PGA Tour pro with over $10 million in career earnings. Martin, currently ranked outside the top 70 in FedEx Cup points, will look to make a late push in Minnesota to secure his playoff berth.

Held at the most northerly venue on the Tour schedule, TPC Twin Cities is a 7,431-yard Arnold Palmer-designed course known for its large greens, tricky rough, and water hazards on 11 holes. Despite its beauty, the field is a bit weaker this year due to its close proximity to The Open Championship, with only three of the world’s top 25 teeing it up.

Still, big names like Maverick McNealy, Chris Gotterup, and former champ Tony Finau bring star power to the event. Finau, in particular, has four top-12 finishes here and boasts an impressive 24-round average of 67.71 at this course.

With just two events left before the postseason begins, every shot counts and for Ben Martin, this last-minute entry could be a golden opportunity to turn his season around.
