PGA Tour Makes Viktor Hovland Announcement After Valspar Championship

Viktor Hovland snapped out of his slump in a big way. After missing the cuts in three consecutive PGA Tour starts, the 27-year-old Norwegian finally made it to the weekend -- and more. Hovland topped the field at the 2025 Valspar Championship, which thrillingly concluded on Sunday.

Hovland entered the final round of the tournament at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, with a share of the lead.

But Justin Thomas posed a big threat to the rest of the competition, with seven birdies in the first 15 holes of the fourth round. However, Thomas tripped down the stretch, recording two bogeys in the final three holes, which helped Hovland cruise to his first win in the 2025 PGA Tour season.

Hovland finished with a score of 11-under 273 to Thomas' 10-under 274. Jacob Bridgeman was third with a 9-under-275 while Bud Cauley, Ryo Hisatsune and Ryo Hisatsune ended the tourney tied for fourth with identical 8-under-276 scores.

In addition to his win and the $1.566 million he pocketed for winning the event, Hovland fattened his FedExCup points total and jumped several notches up in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Via the PGA Tour’s communications department: “With Viktor Hovland’s win at the Valspar Championship, earns 500 FedExCup points to move from No. 137 to No. 26 in the FedExCup standings and from No. 19 to No. 8 in the Official World Golf Ranking.”

Hovland's win on Sunday was his first in a PGA Tour event since he won the Tour Championship in 2023.

Before his success at Innisbrook Resort, Hovland missed the cuts at the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and PLAYERS Championship.

Overall this season, Hovland is 3-for-6 with a pair of top 25s.
