The action at the John Deere Classic has been worth watching two rounds at TPC Deere Run, with local favorite Doug Ghim leading the charge. Ghim, a 29-year-old Illinois native, sits at 12-under after back-to-back rounds of 68.
He’s hoping to capture his first PGA Tour title in his home state and has given fans plenty to cheer about, including a jaw-dropping eagle from 179 yards at the par-4 15th on Friday.
But just as the weekend excitement builds, the PGA Tour has announced significant weather update. Due to a high risk of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, round 3 will see players go out in threesomes off split tees from approximately 7:45 to 10:00 a.m. CT. That early start aims to beat the incoming storm clouds.
According to The Weather Network, there's about a 30% chance of rain in the morning rising later with a strong thunderstorm threat.
Among the stars keeping the pressure on Ghim is Max Homa. The five-time PGA Tour winner carded a 3-under 68 on Friday, climbing into a five-way tie for second.

Homa briefly joined Ghim at 12-under after a birdie on the 17th, but a stumble in the bunker on 18 led to a dropped shot. Still, he's right in the mix and showing solid form.

Defending champion Davis Thompson is also surging, posting the round of the day with a bogey-free 63 to move to 11-under. Alongside him in second are Brian Campbell, David Lipsky, and Emiliano Grillo.
The cut line is projected at 4-under, and Rickie Fowler, despite a rough stretch on his back nine, is holding on at 5-under after a 72.
