PGA Tour Star Will Zalatoris Announces Crushing Injury News

It sounds like one of the bright young stars on the PGA Tour is going to be away from competition for a while after Monday's news.

Per Golf Digest, 28-year-old Will Zalatoris announced that he underwent surgery last week to fix a pair of herniated discs in his back — something he hopes to be able to recover from this calendar year.

"Hey everyone, sharing a health update," Zalatoris began. "This spring, I started feeling some discomfort and instability in my back that progressively got worse. Following the PGA Championship, an MRI showed that I re-herniated two discs."

"After discussing the options with my medical team, I underwent surgery this past Friday with Dr. Michael Duffy at the Texas Back Institute. I'm happy to say I woke up feeling good and excited about my long-term back health," he continued.

"Time to focus on my recovery and get back after it. Thank you to my team, friends, and family for being there for me throughout this journey. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the fall!!"

Zalatoris has played in 11 events this season with three top 25 finishes and nine cuts made. After missing the cut in last weekend's PGA Championship with a 6-over though, something clearly felt off for the Wake Forest grad.

Hopefully after this surgery Zalatoris is able to come back better than ever. But as many sports fans know, back operations can be a little dicey sometimes.

We certainly hope that's not the case for Will and look forward to watching him compete again in the back half of the PGA schedule!
