Who's trending up and trending down at the PGA Tour's midway point?

The PGA Tour has reached its midway point and if the second half is anything like the first then buckle up. A flair for the dramatic has punctuated the 2025 season.

As the second half begins at the Memorial this weekend, here are three golfers trending up and three trending down.

Trending Up

Rory McIlroy

This list must start with McIlroy, the biggest story during the first half the season. He's a three-time FedEx Cup champion and is firmly in the hunt for his fourth. McIlroy's Masters win was the moment of the year and completed his career grand slam. Even without that win though, he'd still make the list. Wins at The Players and Pebble Beach, along with two more top five finishes dot the resume.

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler is the king of consistency. He has eight top 10 finishes and claimed his third career major at the PGA Championship. In 11 starts this season, Scheffler has finished no worse than 25th. As of late he's been especially great, recording eight rounds with a sub-66 score in his last six starts. He's finished in the top 5 of four of the last five tournaments he's started. He's first in the FedEx Cup standings and looks hard to catch at this point. Oh by the way: he's the defending champ at the Memorial.

Justin Thomas

Following Thomas is not for the faint of heart. He's been inconsistent, but when he's good, he's really good. He owns six top 10 finishes and his win at the RBC Heritage was his first on Tour since the 2022 PGA Championship. He's currently fourth in the FedEx Cup standings. Missing the weekend at this season's PGA Championship was a sour end to the first half of the season, but if he can string together a prolonged stretch of quality play he'll certainly be in the mix at any tournament.

Trending Down

Xander Schauffele

Schauffele hasn't looked like himself this season after suffering a rib injury in December. After capturing the PGA Championship and The Open last season, he was firmly considered one of the best in the game, but he's had just one top 10 finish in eight starts this season. To put Scheffler's aforementioned eight rounds of sub-66 golf in perspective, Schauffele has just 14 rounds of sub-70 golf on the card this season. As he gets back to full strength perhaps a second half resurgence is in store.

Viktor Hovland

Is the Memorial exactly what Hovland needs to get going? He won the event in 2023 and could use a strong showing this year. He's currently 37th in the FedEx Cup standings with a win under his belt this season at the Valspar Championship. However, three-straight missed cuts in February and March were troublesome. He's been in the top 25 twice in his last four starts though, and could be a player primed to move up the standings in the second half of the year.

Wyndham Clark

Clark has struggled this season to the tune of two missed cuts, a withdrawal from The Players due to a neck injury and four finishes at 50th or worse. The 2023 U.S. Open champion missed three cuts at majors last season and finished 46th at this year's Masters and 50th at the U.S. Open, shooting a final round 74 in both.

Zach Wadley

Zach Wadley's sportswriting career began at the age of 12 when he started covering Little League games for his local newspaper. Since then, he's worked in the sports information field where he merged his love of writing, social media, and broadcasting. He is a graduate of Anderson University (IN).
