PGA’s Travelers Championship suspends play in second round due to lightning
© Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

PGA Tour fans wanting to watch the Travelers Championship second round in Cromwell, Connecticut will have to wait. One of the signature events on tour was delayed on Friday afternoon due to lightning in the area, the PGA Tour announced on their Twitter page. More updates will come in as they’re posted.

Tom Kim has jumped out to an early lead in the event, firing a 13-under par so far after carding a 62 and 65 in his first two rounds. It marked his fifth round of 62 or better on the PGA Tour, each of those coming in different tournaments.

Collin Morikawa, Akshay Batia, Xander Schauffele, and Scottie Scheffler aren’t far behind. Morikawa sits at 11-under after firing a 66 and 63 in his first two rounds. Batia is tied with Morikawa at 11-under par. And Schauffele and Scheffler both sit at 10-under par total. Scheffler has completed 16 holes, so he’s still got two more holes left in his second round.

Many wondered how long it would take Scheffler to bounce back from his very poor showing at the 2024 U.S. Open (he finished T41st). The answer so far, has been not long at all. He’s been having one of the most dominant seasons in PGA Tour history and while he played very uncharacteristically at Pinehurst No. 2, that seems to be behind him.

Collin Morikawa continues to show that he’s among the best players in the world when he’s dialed in. He’s been impressive in the majors this year, T3 at The Masters, T4 at the PGA Championship, and T14 at the US Open.
