On Thursday afternoon, Phil Mickelson announced that he won't be competing at Augusta National later this month.
Earlier this week, Tiger Woods revealed that he's stepping away from golf to focus on his health. This decision was made days after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Unfortunately for golf fans, he's not the only star who'll be missing from the field at the 2026 Masters.
Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, revealed that he'll be sidelined for a while due to a family-related issue.
"Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter," Mickelson said in a statement shared on social media. "I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and it is definitely the most special week of the year. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching."
Fans were treated to a classic during the 2025 Masters, as Rory McIlroy defeated Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to claim his first green jacket and complete the career Grand Slam.
As of this Thursday, oddsmakers have Scottie Scheffler as the overwhelming favorite (+500) to win the Masters. Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy have the second-best odds (+1000).
The first round of the Masters will begin on April 9. There'll be full coverage on Golf Channel, Prime Video and ESPN. CBS will televise the final two rounds at Augusta National as per usual.
