Brandel Chamblee, the voice heard by millions during top events, is not receiving criticism for his critical words about LIV golfers. Recently, when he made a remark about Bryson DeChambeau regarding the “captain’s nightmare,” it invited LIV veteran to respond with a jab similar to 2017, which led DeChambeau to block him on social media.
Ian Poulter, a LIV Golf pro, was asked during his ongoing Q&A session on Instagram, “What’s your opinion of Brandel Chamblee?” Sharing for that, Poulter brought out the old, not-so-good memories of the duo.
He wrote, “Kids read my posts, so I have to keep it clean. I’d love to give you my full thoughts on him. He blocked me over 10 years ago. He can’t handle anyone coming back at his comments. It’s actually a waste of my time. But I can only apologize to all golf fans that they even have to listen to his drivel.”
Sorry to disappoint, I can only dream of being as good as Brandel.. it’s clearly very easy sitting on your arse… thanks for the support. https://t.co/hK8rs8NcXW

During the 2017 PLAYERS Championship, Poulter finished T2, three shots shy of Si Woo Kim. However, his performance slump, marked by two bogeys to close the round, elicited some interesting quotes from Chamblee. The commentator said, “He clearly did not play to win, and he didn’t!” The quote questioning the approach of the golfer left Poulter no option other than to reply the same way.
In return, Poulter wrote on X, “Sorry to disappoint, I can only dream of being as good as Brandel… It’s clearly easy sitting on your ar*e… thanks for the support.”
Soon after, the golfer was blocked from following commentators, and the rift remains active as Chamblee continues to make comments about LIV golfers.
During Ryder Cup week, Chamblee questioned DeChambeau’s intent for the team, as he had not mentioned being part of the team. In fact, Chamblee further called him a nightmare.
He said, “That is one of the reasons why I think he’s gonna be such a difficult person to get paired with. No doubt he’s one hell of a golfer. No doubt he has his moments of generosity with fans. I’ve heard about him, but he’s an odd duck when he’s trying to blend in with the team, and he has so many potential bulletin board mistakes, and I think he would be a captain’s nightmare.”
According to him, DeChambeau seemed more interested in his YouTube numbers and expanding his fan base than rallying around Team USA. That was evident as the golfer, instead of discussing the team, preparation, or even the grand stage, fell into influencer mode.
However, it is shocking to see how DeChambeau has changed his stance. Chamblee did the same as well. Earlier, he called DeChambeau a formidable pairing, which might limit his participation.
Prior to calling DeChambeau a “Captain’s nightmare,” Chamblee talked about the difficulty of pairing DeChambeau in the Ryder Cup.
During the Favorite Chamblee podcast, he said, “I think Bryson DeChambeau will be hard to pair with. You know, I think he is. I believe Cameron Young plays a similar golf ball, if not the exact same golf ball. But just the style of golf Bryson plays has proved difficult to pair with in the Ryder Cup. His record clearly shows that.”
DeChambeau, who has been part of two Ryder Cup editions in the past, has played in only four editions. In fact, the most successful year was 2021, when he recorded a win and a halved match, paired with Scottie Scheffler. Though, as Chamblee guessed, his pair, Cameron Young and Johnson Wagner, also think the same, considering their similarity.
But what left everyone shocked was how Chamblee changed his stance from talking about the golfer’s pairing to making it a “captain’s nightmare.” In fact, that transition has brought the old online rivalry back to life after 10 years.
