Phil Mickelson isn't afraid to ruffle some feathers with his comments off the golf course. That being said, he decided to tackle a very controversial topic this Thursday.
Mickelson started off the new month by calling out Chuck Schumer, a member of the Democratic Party. Schumer said he won't let the SAVE Act pass. If it did though, it would require proof of citizenship to vote in the United States.
The six-time major champion called Schumer a "traitor" for being against the SAVE Act.
"How is this fighting for Americans? How is letting non citizens vote in American elections a good thing? It is NOT! He is not representing America , its citizens nor their best interests. He’s a traitor," Mickelson wrote on X.
That's not all Mickelson had to say this Thursday. He actually issued a challenge to the Democratic Party.
It all started with Mickelson reposting a video of CNN pundit Scott Jennings talking about the deportation process for illegal immigrants.
"Democrats allowed 20 million illegal immigrants to walk into the country with NO process," Jennings said. "Now, they want President Trump to give these people who broke the law YEARS of 'due process' before he can send them back home. Americans are SICK of this."
Mickelson made it abundantly clear that he shares the same stance on deporting illegal immigrants.
"Exactly. Anyone who disagrees should open their homes to them especially the judges who are overstepping their jurisdiction," Mickelson wrote. "Yah, I didn't think so."
Some golf fans agree with Mickelson's stance on this matter. Others, however, want every immigrant to receive due process.
"Phil, with all due respect they get due process here because the constitution grants that to them, and to all of us. Rights are inalienable in our founding document. That’s what makes America great. Judges who follow the 5th and 14th amendments should not be punished," one person replied.
This probably won't be the last time Mickelson says something political this month. It's truly a matter of when, not if.
