Report: Tiger Woods versus Phil Mickelson II will feature Tom Brady, Peyton Manning

In late March, Jabari Young of CNBC reported Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, two of the greatest and most-famous golfers in history, were planning to compete on a course against each other with iconic NFL personalities Tom Brady and Peyton Manning tagging along.

We now have more information, specifically that the match is happening in May.

On Wednesday afternoon, Action Network's Darren Rovell and Bleacher Report confirmed "The Match: Champions for Charity" will take place next month and will raise money for individuals directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic that shut much of the sports world down in the middle of March.

Neither source mentioned the specific date for the contest, but Rovell listed May 15 and May 24 as likely possibilities. He also reported that Woods will pair-up with Manning to face a Mickelson-Brady partnership. It's only fitting, as these teams feature two of the greatest on-course and on-field sports rivalries of the past 20 years.

The pairs of competitors are friends when not trying to topple each other for prizes and titles. Brady, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March, appeared on Episode 26 of the ESPN program "Peyton's Places" with Manning. The two of them humorously trolled legendary football and golf announcer Jim Nantz.

Woods and Mickelson are no strangers to playing for charity. In November 2018, Mickelson defeated Woods in the first edition of "The Match."

Rovell reported the upcoming charity fixture may occur at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. Earlier this month, Florida state officials made World Wrestling Entertainment an "essential" business via a memo that included the following:

“Employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience — including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any others necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production — only if the location is closed to the general public.”

It's assumed the foursome would be asked to practice social-distancing and other CDC-recommended guidelines during the event.
