Ludvig Aberg is in the mix to win his third PGA Tour title this weekend at the Valero Texas Open.

Aberg is a joy to watch when he’s in full flow, and it is a real surprise that he hasn’t won a lot more tournaments.

The 26-year-old was in pole position to win The Players Championship three weeks ago but he collapsed on the back nine at TPC Sawgrass, and ended up in a tie for fifth.

Aberg has been back to his best at the Valero Texas Open this week, and began the third round four shots adrift of his Ryder Cup teammate, Robert MacIntyre, after shooting consecutive rounds of 67.

The man from Eslov, Sweden, looks as if he was built in a laboratory to play golf at the very highest level.

However, after Ludvig Aberg’s failure to win The Players Championship, some serious questions have been asked of his ability to actually get the job done in big tournaments.

Rich Beem makes Ludvig Aberg statement at the Valero Texas Open

On-course commentator Rich Beem was following the Aberg and MacIntyre group around TPC San Antonio on Saturday.

Beem is a big fan of Aberg, and why wouldn’t he be? The big Swede is an absolute joy to watch when he’s in full flow.

After Aberg flew his three-wood 300 yards through the air on the second hole at TPC San Antonio on Saturday, Beem suggested that the Swede is the best in the world with a fairway metal in his hands.

I don’t know of a better player in the game with fairway metals than this guy, Beem said.

I’ve just seen him hit some remarkable shots over the last couple of years.

It’s a joke, yeah, it’s joke.

Ludvig Aberg is warming up nicely for The Masters

Aberg is being heavily backed to win The Masters at Augusta National next week.

The form he has shown in San Antonio this week will be a huge confidence boost for him, as he looks to win his first major next week.

However, the last thing Aberg needs is to drop out of contention over the weekend at the Valero Texas Open.

The Players can be chalked off as a one-off, but if it happens again, alarm bells will start ringing for the Swede.

The way Aberg is swinging right now, though, he will be fully confident of getting the job done in Texas on Sunday.
