Rory McIlroy Makes Big Change to His Appearance Before Open Championship

Six years ago Rory McIlroy failed to make the cut in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in his native Northern Ireland.

McIlroy fired a 79 and sat at 8-over after the first day of competition and sat 13 shots off the lead after just the first round. He attempted to make a miraculous comeback, but fell just one shot short of making the cut after a 6-under, 65.

“I wanted to be here for the weekend. Selfishly I wanted to feel that support for two more days. But today was probably one of the most fun rounds of golf I’ve ever played," he said after the round. “It’s strange saying that standing here and having had a bit of success and won this championship before, and just to be battling to make the cut. To play in front of those crowds today and to feel that momentum and really dig in, it’s going to be a tough one to get over."

Fast forward to a year later and McIlroy is gearing up to make a run at his second Open Championship title - his first came back in 2014 when he won both the PGA Championship and the Open title. First things first, the grand slam winner will be teeing it up at the Scottish Open in a tune-up for the Open.

As McIlroy took to the course for a practice round, fans noticed he made a pretty significant change by buzzing his hair.

McIlroy will tee off in the Genesis Scottish Open at 8:43 a.m. ET alongside Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele. He won the event in 2023 with a one-shot victory over Bobby MacIntyre, who went on to win the event the following year and enters as the defending champion.
