Scottie Scheffler Concerning News Emerges After US Open

Scottie Scheffler’s run at the 2025 U.S. Open ended in heartbreak. The world No. 1, who came into Oakmont as a favorite, couldn’t overcome the course’s brutal challenges. A crucial three-putt late in the final round derailed his momentum, leaving him tied for seventh.

“If I had four days like I did today, I think it would have been a different story,” Scheffler reflected after Sunday’s round. His error-filled start and missed opportunities proved costly, as J.J. Spaun swooped in with a clutch finish to claim his maiden major title.

While Spaun celebrated his dramatic win, Scottie’s comments earlier in the week about Oakmont’s toughness echoed louder than ever. “It's challenging,” he admitted. “This golf course is tough… Colin Victor and I were laughing and scoring yesterday because there was one instance yesterday where Colin kind of walked through my line because he got flustered by chipping over green.”

Scheffler also noted how mental lapses crept in, even joking about messing up scores during the chaos. His friend Sam Burns had a good run to the Open but gradually fell on Sunday.

This U.S. Open adds to Scheffler’s frustrating record in the tournament, having failed to break par in nine straight rounds. Despite his consistent dominance elsewhere, the national championship remains a hurdle. The disappointment now leaves fans wondering if he’ll make a quick turnaround for the Travelers Championship next week.

Though not confirmed, Scheffler’s track record of bouncing back makes a showing at TPC River Highlands a possibility. After all, he's known for grinding through adversity. Still, the sting of Oakmont lingers.

As one of golf’s brightest stars, the expectation remains high, but even the best stumble. The U.S. Open 2025 will be remembered for Spaun’s triumph and Scheffler’s slip, a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in golf.
