Scottie Scheffler Makes One Thing Clear Before Scottish Open

The top golfers in the world are preparing for the 2025 Open Championship, but before that, the Genesis Scottish Open takes place this weekend at The Renaissance Club.

The par-70 course stretches 7,237 yards and will challenge every player in the field. Last year, Robert MacIntyre claimed victory by a single stroke over Adam Scott. This year, the world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, enters as a favorite.

Scheffler is aiming for the winner’s share of the $9 million purse. The 29-year-old joined the PGA Tour in 2018 and has racked up 16 wins, including three major championships.

On Wednesday, Scheffler spoke with the media about what a win in Scotland would mean.

“It would be very special to win at the home of golf,” he said.

In 2023, Scheffler finished 10-under and tied for third, his best result at this event. Last season, he skipped the event to recharge and spend time with his family. He missed the cut in 2022.

Scheffler has not played since the Travelers Championship, which ended on June 22. He tied for sixth there, extending his streak of top-10 finishes to nine straight events. The last time he missed the top 10 was at The Players Championship in March.

Scheffler had a dominant run in May and June, winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship and the Memorial Tournament, all within a four-week span.

When the Open Championship begins, Scheffler will be chasing his first title in the event. He tied for seventh last year and has finished in the top 25 in all four of his Open appearances.
