Shane Lowry Makes the Same Risky Move as Rory McIlroy After Facing Setback at Spanish Open 2025

Sitting 15 feet away from the cup, Shane Lowry needed a birdie on the 18th at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid to make the cut for the weekend. He had a tough time in the 2025 Open de España on Thursday, and this was his last chance to play the entire tournament. He struck the ball, and it rolled over just 1 foot away from the hole. That ended the Irishman’s fate in Spain two days before the tournament will officially conclude. Frustrated with his performance, Lowry did something his close friend, Rory McIlroy, did during the 2025 PGA Championship.

Playing his first tournament since he hit the Ryder Cup retaining putt for Team Europe at Bethpage, Shane was hoping to get a positive result in the Spanish Open. However, after things didn’t go his way, he decided to skip the press conference. There is no confirmation of whether he is still on the course or if he has left for his hotel. Either way, the reporters will certainly not be able to question Lowry about his performance in the Spanish Open this week.
