Sahith Theegala has officially withdrawn from the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, citing a persistent neck injury that also saw him exit last week's Truist Championship prematurely. This setback marks a significant hiccup in Theegala's season, especially considering his struggles to meet expectations so far this year.
Despite a promising start to his season, Theegala has recently found top finishes elusive, with just one top-20 appearance to his name so far. His most recent performance was particularly disappointing, plummeting to last place after a challenging third round at the Truist Championship. This decline is a far cry from the golfer who, just two years ago, celebrated his first TOUR victory and secured a spot on the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
The absence of Theegala, ranked No. 31 in the world, leaves the PGA Championship field notably diminished, missing one of its brightest talents alongside Billy Horschel, another sidelined top player. Alex Smalley steps in as Theegala’s replacement, amid a field that still boasts 98 of the top 100 players globally.
Revisiting Theegala's history at Quail Hollow could have offered him a chance at redemption. Prior appearances at the venue showcased mixed results, but a return to the site of his T12 finish last year held potential for a breakthrough performance.
