This may be LIV Golf's last chance at being on TV

This channel may be LIV Golf's last chance at being on TV

You may have forgotten that the second LIV Golf season is set to start in just a little over a month. That's largely due to the fact that the Saudi Arabia-funded golf circuit still doesn't have a television deal and therefore isn't advertising upcoming events.

But Greg Norman's breakaway league may finally have a suitor willing to televise its events -- and it is an interesting match, to say the least.

According to the Sports Business Journal, the CW Network is now the frontrunner to televise the upcoming LIV Golf season, which is set to start at the end of February. The channel known for its teen-targeted programming was rumored to be linked to LIV Golf back in December, but only recently became the strongest candidate after talks to get LIV Golf on Fox Sports fizzled out.

The CW entering the chat naturally sounds odd because the channel has no other sports programming. But there's no denying it fits the narrative surrounding LIV Golf and its inability to lock down major sponsors or get itself on TV. When most of the major channels flat-out turned LIV down, the golf circuit was prepared to pay Fox Sports an exorbitant amount of money to get its tournaments aired.

There have even been reports this month that LIV Golf is considering airing their events free of charge in the U.K. although that move hasn't completely come to fruition either.

If this reported deal with the CW doesn't pan out either, LIV Golf is going to have a difficult time attracting new viewers. The tour didn't sign any new players during its offseason and has yet to announce its full roster of participants. LIV also hasn't announced its full season schedule, making the start of its second season even more chaotic than the first.

Fans of LIV Golf should keep their fingers crossed that a deal with the CW gets done. At this rate, LIV is running out of options for being on TV at all.
