The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. ET near 281 South Beach Road on Jupiter Island (close to Woods’ home). Woods was driving a dark Land Rover (Range Rover). He reportedly tried to pass a pickup truck pulling a pressure-cleaner trailer, clipped the back of the trailer, and caused his SUV to roll onto its driver’s side.
He climbed out through the passenger door/window. The other driver (truck) was not injured, and no serious injuries were reported for Woods.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded, along with Jupiter Island police. DUI investigators were called due to signs of impairment, and Woods took a breathalyzer and blew 0.00 (no alcohol detected). He refused a urine test, leading to the DUI charge under Florida’s implied consent laws (refusal itself can support the charge).
Authorities suspect medication (possibly related to past pain issues) rather than alcohol. He was arrested and booked into Martin County Jail, where he’ll be held for at least eight hours. He’ll be kept safe but not in general population.
Sheriff John Budensiek held a press conference around 5 p.m. ET, providing these details.
This is Woods’ second DUI-related arrest in Florida (the first was in 2017, which involved medication/sleeping pills and a separate single-vehicle crash). He has a well-documented history of back and leg injuries from golf and a 2021 car crash, which often require pain management.
No official update on any injuries or his exact condition post-crash has been released beyond “no serious injuries” at the scene. The story is still developing.
