A week after making his return to action, Tiger Woods made headlines, and not for the best reasons. The veteran golfer was involved in a frightening rollover crash on Friday.
Police arrested him for driving under the influence in Jupiter Island, Florida. The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. The golfer didn’t suffer serious injuries, but he landed in trouble with justice.
Woods was released on Friday. His mugshot raised concerns among fans, and he didn’t look in the best condition after his release. More details emerged about this situation, including why he refused to take a urine test.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said on Friday that Woods refused to take a urine test.
“He has a right to refuse that test,” Budensiek said. “There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.”
That piece of information sparked speculation. However, an insider told the Daily Mail that Woods didn’t refuse to take the test for using illegal drugs. Instead, years of use of heavy doses of prescription opioids to treat his injuries may have been behind the decision.
“I know the guy, that’s just not what he does,” the source said. “He has been on tons of pain medication for years.”
Woods has battled multiple injuries in recent times. That’s why he remains non-committal about the upcoming Masters tournament. This might confirm that he won’t participate in the competition.
