Tiger Woods disputes Rory McIlroy's COVID story

Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy said recently that both he and Tiger Woods contracted COVID-19 ahead of the 2022 Open Championship. On Tuesday morning, Woods disputed McIlroy's story.

During an interview with The Independent, the world's No. 1 golfer said that he believed he passed the virus onto Woods prior to the major tournament.

"I woke up that morning feeling a bit achy but didn't really think anything of it," McIlroy told Paul Kimmage. "I rang Tiger: 'I'm not feeling so good here.' And he goes, 'Oh, I feel okay.' But he texted me at 10 o'clock that night, chills, fever, and I'm like, 'F---ing hell, I've just given Tiger COVID! This is horrendous!'"

Cam Smith ended up winning the 2022 Open Championship, with McIlroy finishing in third place. Woods missed the cut and ended the tournament with a two-round score of 153 (nine-over par).'

Woods also addressed his recent decision to withdraw from the upcoming Hero World Challenge due to injury, among a host of other topics.

McIlroy and Woods will team up at The Match", which will take place on Dec. 10 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The duo will square off against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
