Golf legend Tiger Woods hasn’t stopped getting bad news since he was involved in a frightening rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday. The 50-year-old spent eight hours in jail before somebody bailed him out and drove him home.
Woods went silent from Friday through Tuesday, when he appeared on social media to announce he would seek help.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” he wrote. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
Two days after his message, Woods learned that he would not deal only with the DUI charge. TMZ Sports reported on Thursday that he was hit with a citation for careless driving. The ticket, filled in Martin County on Thursday, carries a fine of $163.
Authorities released body camera footage of the 15-time major champion after the accident. He failed multiple sobriety tests before getting handcuffed.
Woods will now travel overseas to get treatment, as Vanessa Trump made a clear request to the golfer if he plans to continue with their relationship.
