The legendary Tiger Woods has finally addressed what's next for his career after his arrest in Florida.
Shortly after Woods was involved in a rollover accident last Friday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office arrested him on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. The authorities said Woods was “lethargic and slow” when they interviewed him.
With The Masters set to begin next Thursday, fans have been waiting to hear what's next for the 15-time major champion.
Well, Woods just issued his first statement on social media this Tuesday.
Woods has announced that he's stepping away from the spotlight to focus on his health.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said.
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
Unsurprisingly, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp is offering his full support to Woods and his family at this time.
"Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known. Over the last year, I have come to deeply appreciate Tiger not only for his impact on the game, but for his friendship and the perspective he has shared with me as I joined the golf industry," Rolapp said. "My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support."
While it's unfortunate Woods won't be at The Masters next week, there are certain things in life that are far more important than sports.
