Tiger Woods Withdraws From Genesis Invitational
Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

A moment that avid golf fans have been waiting almost a year for was suddenly cut short. In the middle of the 2nd round of the Genesis Invitational, Tiger Woods was unexpectedly forced to withdraw from the tournament. Woods was in the middle of his first competitive tournament since March 2023 and is the host of the event at Riviera.

After finishing the sixth hole Woods teed off at the seventh but was carted away from the seventh tee box back to the clubhouse before finishing the hole. At the time of the incident. He was +1 on the day and (+2) overall for the tournament.

Things appeared to go further downhill for Woods upon his arrival back at the clubhouse. Multiple firetrucks and an ambulance were seen arriving at Rivera shortly thereafter prompting fears that something was pretty severely wrong.

Although paramedics were seen bringing a gurney inside, Woods did not leave in the ambulance. He was seen leaving on his own accord about two hours later.

Speaking to the media on Tiger's behalf following the withdrawal, Rob McNamara, EVP of TGR Ventures, clarified that Wood's is dealing with flu-like symptoms and was treated for dehydration.

"Yeah. So he started feeling some flu-like symptoms last night. Woke up this morning, they were worse than the night previous. He had a little bit of a fever and that, and was better during the warm-up, but then when he got out there and was walking and playing, he started feeling dizzy. Ultimately the doctors are saying he's got some -- potentially some type of flu and that he was dehydrated. He's been treated with an IV bag and he's doing much, much better and he'll be released on his own here soon."

On Tap At The Tee Box

This is a tough one to swallow. The hype behind Woods' return has been huge for the PGA Tour. Though this is an unfortunate setback and comes with extremely poor timing, this is not the end of the road for Tiger Woods.

While his game is not totally back to the levels that made Tiger the legend he is today his play was not too shabby for a guy on one leg and a fused back. There were some positives in his game to build off of. Aside from an awful shank on Thursday afternoon, Woods was quite impressive and had some big moments and shots to follow up on.

All eyes will be set on TPC Sawgrass next month for The Players Championship and hopefully, Woods is ready and able to complete a full tournament in his next scheduled appearance.
