The anticipation for the world’s best golfers to arrive at Bethpage Black in just over a month for the Ryder Cup between the United States and Europe is palpable.
However, the United States has encountered a minor setback in its preparation for the three-day event beginning on Sept. 26.
While captain Keegan Bradley is still finalizing his roster—balancing automatic qualifiers from the top six in points with his own selections—he has a clear plan for team-building: compete together in the Procore Championship two weeks prior.
For key player Bryson DeChambeau, who is expected to automatically qualify this week, that plan won’t be possible. Because the Procore Championship is a PGA Tour event, DeChambeau is ineligible due to his commitment to LIV Golf. Unless an exemption is granted, the U.S. team will have to prepare without him that weekend.
“Well, he’s suspended,” Bradley said Thursday. “That’s out of my control.”
Bradley also addressed the PGA Tour’s rules, emphasizing that he believes an event like the Ryder Cup should take precedence over any PGA-LIV controversies.
“I thought the Ryder Cup sort of transcends all of this,” Bradley said. “The last thing on my mind is the PGA Tour-LIV stuff.”

Although DeChambeau cannot participate in the Procore Championship with his Ryder Cup teammates, his agent emphasized that he plans to attend every team event or gathering between the end of the PGA and LIV seasons and the Ryder Cup in late September.
“We have not formally inquired,” said DeChambeau’s agent, Brett Falkoff. “Bryson plans to participate in every team gathering that he is permitted to attend.”
The European team won the last Ryder Cup in 2023 and has taken five of the last seven events—a narrative DeChambeau is eager to end.
“I hope I can bring a lot of energy,” DeChambeau said. “This year is no joke. We’re tired of it. We’re tired of losing.”
