Wyndham Clark’s form has fallen off a cliff, and that led to him splitting with his caddie after The Players.
The controversial figure, who landed in hot water after trashing Oakmont’s locker room at last year’s US Open, is winless since 2024, and is yet to finish in the top 10 this season.
Clark parted ways with longtime caddie John Ellis, who he won the US Open with in 2023 as part of their decade-long partnership. A T42 finish at The Players was the nail in the coffin for the pairing after a string of poor results.
Ellis spoke out to explain the split and said if there are any bad feelings between them.
Ellis explained on the Gravy & The Sleeze radio show that it was simply time for a change for Clark, and there are no hard feelings between the two.
He said, “When things aren’t going great, and I care more about Wyndham and I’s friendship. We’re friends before business, and things just weren’t right, and something had to give. I felt like it was just time, maybe a different voice for both of us would help.
“If I go on Instagram, it looks like there’s a lot of hatred, but there’s no hatred for Wyndham and I. We’re still friends, we texted yesterday, it’s all good. It’s part of the business, and I’m still going to root for him. I’m sure he’ll root for me, whatever I do after this.”
Dave Pelekoudas, who has filled in for Ellis a number of times in recent seasons, will be Clark’s caddie for the foreseeable future, as the two-time PGA Tour winner gears up for The Masters.
It’s a place he hasn’t had much success in the past, so perhaps a new voice in his ear is exactly what he needs to contend for his second major championship.
