A scary scene stopped play at the Valspar Championship on Saturday. A golf cart hit a young girl near the 15th hole and briefly trapped her underneath. Players and fans nearby were shocked.

Officials and medical staff rushed in right away. They freed the girl and checked her on site. On-course reporter Smylie Kaufman shared an update on NBC and said she would be okay after evaluation. Players in the group, including Brooks Koepka, reacted right away.

Koepka walked over to the girl and tried to calm her down. He spoke about the moment after his round and showed clear concern.

Koepka Comforts Young Fan After Incident

Koepka showed his emotions when he spoke to reporters. “I just felt terrible for her,” he said. “I believe her name is Shay, so from all the reports you’ve got she’s okay, thankfully.”

He focused on her safety above everything else. “That’s all that matters, as long as she’s okay,” Koepka said. “I know she’s probably a little scared and I just felt for her at the time.”

Kaufman also described what he saw. “Brooks Koepka went underneath the ropes to talk to the girl and comfort her,” he said. He added, “She’s going to be OK after medical evaluation. Very scary moment.”

Play resumed after the delay, but the moment stayed with those on the course. Koepka returned to action and made par on the 15th. He followed that with a double bogey on the 16th and finished with a level-par 71.

Koepka said the incident did not affect his play. He pointed instead to his struggles off the tee. “I drove it terrible all day. It really cost me,” he said.

He now sits at four-under for the tournament. He trails leader Sungjae Im by seven shots heading into the final round.

Koepka stayed honest about his form. “I’ve been driving it poorly all week,” he said. “I don’t know exactly what it is.”

He has now left LIV Golf. Despite everything that happened, the main focus was on the girl’s safety. Koepka made that clear. For him, his performance on the course did not matter on a day that took an unexpected turn.
