Throughout every sport, there are frequent debates over which athlete is the greatest in that respective sport.
While the NBA's debate between LeBron James and Michael Jordan may never be settled, and the NFL's debate between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady is far from over, there is one sport that appears to have a common consensus pertaining to its G.O.A.T.
When it comes to gymnastics, most, if not all, around the sport would point to 28-year-old Simone Biles as the best to ever do it. Following the 2024 Paris Olympics, which saw her win three gold medals and one silver, Biles became the most decorated gymnast in United States history, men's or women's.
Although it's a daunting title to uphold, Biles has fully embraced it as she donned a marvelous custom 3D goat chain after winning gold in the all-around final. A chain with 546 diamonds, which she proudly wore in a Wednesday Instagram story, also featured her posing in a red swimsuit.
Biles commissioned the chain from Janet Heller Fine Jewelry, who made it to honor her greatness.
"Each piece, crafted by Janet Heller Fine Jewelry, is a testament to the enduring legacy of a true champion," read a July post by the jeweler. "As the Paris 2024 Olympics unfold, all eyes are on Simone Biles – the GOAT both on and off the mat.
As for why Biles chose to don it at the Olympics, she made it clear she was doing it to create buzz and discourse.
"My goat necklace, is just kind of an ode, because the people love it and then some people hate it, so it's like the best of both worlds. And I was like, okay, if it goes well, I'll wear the goat necklace, I know people will go crazy over it," Biles told People. "But at the end of the day, it is crazy that I'm in the conversation of greatest of all time athletes, because I still think I'm Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that loves to flip."
While fans would love to see her at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the six-time gold medalist and G.O.A.T. has yet to decide on her plans.
